I’ve started doing one-hour conversations for women who want Elevated Leadership. Normally it is the second Tuesday of every month at 4:00 but in August it will be on Thursday the 10th because a family member is receiving her white medical coat as she prepares to begin her medical career. Amazingly, since I hate to cancel a commitment, my first thought was “I could bring my laptop and get away for an hour and then rejoin my family.” It took less that a split second to realize how insane a thought that was. Insane, yet how typical is it for you to go there? If I were to do so, I would not be fully present in the session, nor would I be fully present to the ceremony later thinking of what I had missed while also hoping that there had not been excessive noise in the background.

All of this reminded me of what I taught my first-year students for years. DO ONE THING AT A TIME. They would be so blown away by the growth, the learning, and the level of skills and self-awareness they had never imagined learning or developing. For some, that excitement led them to go through another training on weekends we weren’t together and then another and another hoping for so much more. After a bit they would be sinking, and tell me about the over-stimulation, the over-extending with homework etc. If they could manage it timewise, they thought “What could go wrong?” Everything!!!!

Intellectually we can manage many things simultaneously, yet emotionally, spiritually, and energetically, it results in chaos and overwhelm.

Yes, I can have the dishwasher going and even the laundry going while I am in the office writing this newsletter yet that is solely because I have nothing invested in the tasks my machines are now responsible for. I am fully here. Haven’t you found that when you multi-task that things fall through the cracks? That the bare minimum gets provided in each because you are solely present on an intellectual level?

When we focus on one thing, all our energy is right there. That permits our hearts, souls, and emotions to be present as well. It allows our creativity to jump in and provide a story or an additional thought you hadn’t thought of until just that moment. Because that one thing has your undivided attention, you can thoroughly enjoy it and feel the flow and movement around it. It’s your gift to yourself. You have no other expectations on you at that moment and what a relief that is….

Yes, we are here to accomplish miracles, to become our best selves, and to make this world a better place. In addition, we are here to live this life, to experience it, not survive within it. Ironically, in calling you to live your life one thing at a time, I am calling you to fully experience this life you are living. Fully, abundantly, and in joy. You deserve it and in spite of yourself you will notice everything still gets done. It just gets done with all of you fully in it every piece of it.

If you are entering a period of transition, let me support you growing one-step at a time, in my 10-month program, as a private client ready for very high-level impact, or within the Institute for Transformational Coaching and Leadership. Pick ONE!!! We can help you grow into another area later, one thing at a time….

Have a great and productive, yet peaceful and joy-filled week. You deserve it.
