For many of us, there is a belief (or illusion) that when we are truly present our mood, energy, and focus is dependent upon, or greatly impacted by, the many interruptions, individuals, and circumstances that come our way on a moment-to-moment basis. I am here to say that is not at all the truth.

We are so powerful that every single day our mood, energy, and focus, are what we choose them to be. I have just completed creating a video on Mindfulness as well as one on Emotional Intelligence which will be sold through my website shortly. They got me thinking about this topic, States of Being. So, I am going to do a video on this as well, taking the topic further than I can here but this is certainly a great place to share an overview of my thoughts.

I have worked with small business folks who could not identify themselves as such. They are “just someone who happens to have a store, sell makeup, or have a private psychotherapy practice” but they are not in “business.” Solely because for them that term “business” implies they are making millions of dollars and/or have a certain number of employees. The number of employees it takes to be considered a “real” business varies, however, on who you are talking to. The fear, if not terror, is that that label could call them to see themselves differently. It does…

It calls you to see yourself in a certain way and to conduct business in a certain way. It creates a different State of Being with a very different energy that you choose to walk in since it reflects a new aspect of you and how you fit in the world. You even begin to see the world differently. You get to relate to everyone in it differently.

The truth is, every one of us gets to choose whatever State of Being most reflects who we are and who we want to be. Each of us chooses, consciously or unconsciously, a State of Being, a certain energy we want to radiate in and project out, on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, mostly without even being aware of it. Some of us walk as if we are victims, as a way of life. Others walk like a person struggling to survive, or as an aggressive warrior who can’t be pushed around, while still others project a need to be rescued, as if they are overwhelmed and incapable. Some choose a State of Being of gratitude, or personal power, of joy, or of an adventurer, etc.

What State of Being do you choose to walk into your life and/or your business in? What energy best supports you being in your higher self? What State of Being calls you to reflect those parts of you that you are most proud of? A winner? A player? Know that just as we each have hundreds of varied emotions within ourselves, we have just any options for a State of Being to walk in. We have just as many options in choosing the person we want to be and the impact we want to have.

Is it important to you to feel and project being grounded? Is it important to show passion and a love of what you are doing? An ability to see what can’t be seen and hear what can’t be heard? This is a state, a presence, that becomes identified with you. “She is always so happy.”  “He always appears lost.” “He is a visionary, always looking at the next step.”  This becomes our default, or presence, that we bring everywhere. It is our choice. Make it consciously.

The practice or lifestyle of Mindfulness, calls us to be conscious of what we feel, think, and do, whether in reaction or response to everything within or around us. Emotional Intelligence calls us to understand our triggers, our glory, and our tendency to respond or react in a certain way while giving us an understanding of how to shift and grow in relationship to ourselves and others. States of Being call us to decide what energy, such as gratitude, joy, hope, fear, etc. or what part of us we choose to live in and project to those who are around us, our higher self, or our lower self?

With each of these levels of awareness, this conscious self-understanding in place, our businesses and our lives can thrive in such a grounded, balanced, and energetic way. In this wonderful blend, identifying and connecting with our purpose, passion, and pleasure, becomes a natural default. We become those people we always admired. The ones who knew who they were and who lived it without apology or explanation yet with compassion, power, and a love of life we all deserve. I wish this for each of you…
