Continuously Changing & Growing – With Help

By November 15, 2017April 2nd, 2018Articles, Uncategorized

As with you, life has been filled with opportunities that could be taken or passed by, the choice is always based on so many factors. “Do I have the time?” “Is it something I believe in?” “Will it make me a better person and/or bring additional joy into my life?” “Is it worth my time?” What I have added to my list lately, is “Does it support me in following my dreams or is it simply a distraction?”

I have added that question because there are so many distractions that sound marvelous when you first hear of them and yet they add so much more to your plate that life goes from being a joy, with a combination of giving and receiving, growing and self-nurturance, to one in which you can get lost in the process and become filled with stress  because you are simply far too over-extended. I see far too many patients filled with stress they believe they can’t let go of.  Ask whatever questions that fit where you are in your life, and what it is you want to bring in.

For me, I added the last question because my dream recently has been to grow as a speaker. A girlfriend, Lisa Lelas, who is president of the CT division of the National Speakers Association, of course told me I needed to become a member of the National Speakers Association and the Global Speakers Federation since I wanted to go global again. To do so I was required to give 20 paid talks in a short period of time so that I could also attend the annual NSA Conference as a  professional member.

My first thought was that that was close to impossible (yes that thought does cross my mind at times but thankfully for very short periods) since I had about 6 weeks to get it set instead of the usually allotted one year. Yet in speaking to Lisa, Anne Garland, and Marianne Esposito, a friend I have walked a half-marathon with, I was guided to opportunities I never could have imagined – and that fit my questions.  All 20 talks are completed, I am now a member of both organizations, and am set for the conference with a wonderful roommate.

No matter what your dream, when you nurture yourself, stay focused, and ask for help, it is amazing what miracles can happen everyday.  There are so many people who want to support you in whatever way they can but unless you ask they don’t know to offer. Assess the opportunities offered to you, do they support you in living the life you want? If they do, go for it and remember to reach out to others as needed. You never know who can help you achieve another miracle and bring in another chance for growth and joy. We all in this together. Remember that independence does not mean self-sufficient – that word is an illusion.

Independence means I know what I need, that is my job to figure out AND I know how to get that need met; often it is through the support of others on so many levels. Happy Holiday as you claim your independence while thanking all those who have supported you along the way !
