What do you feel are your greatest gifts?
As a visionary leader, I am fully aware that we think far out of the box at times most of the time. To me, that is one of our greatest gifts because with it comes adventure. Even when we have no idea of where we are going next, how we will grow next, or what we will learn next.
The not so good part of thinking outside the box and experience the resulting adventure is that is that the mundane parts of life can be boring, and the curse of procrastination can pop up at any time just to avoid what needs to be done.
Think about it…spending an entire day having a great time creating scenarios that would be so much fun succeeding in, that the mundane chores we dread didn’t get anywhere near as completed as we had hoped they would when we were planning our day first thing in the morning.
Thankfully, every day is a new day with new intentions, new drive, new motivation, and new ambitions. Nonetheless, humor needs to exist and a whole lot of faith.
Humor is the ability to laugh at ourselves and to recognize when our adolescent selves show up, yet we can’t allow them to decide the schedule or the implementation.
Faith is so needed, in ourselves, in our abilities, and in what we see modeled by those we highly respect. We know what needs to get done; we just need to implement the support tools we have to help it happen. I believe one gift of this little touch of craziness is that it keeps us humble.
If you are a visionary leader, if you have dreams, hopes, and visions for your life, hold onto them, actualize them, work towards them, and develop for yourself the skills, the tricks, the assists needed to keep you on track or at least to get you back on track without trips into self-hatred, self-disgust, or self-pity. Back to humor and faith….
We are all human. We all have stuff. I often tell those who try to tell me how “completed” I am that none of us are done growing until we go home, back to Spirit. If we can accept that, we have no need for perfection. No need for the perfect schedule – whatever that is, and no need to compare ourselves to the imaginary presentation we think all others are living up to. They too are walking in the human condition.
This is where the teenage self can show up encouraging you to find something “wrong” with everyone else. Then, YUP you can see that they are simply human too. So, sit back and feel like a part of the crowd. Laugh at your craziness and have faith that this too shall pass. Hopefully in a few minutes so you can get back to what you know you can do easily, even if you don’t want to….
Leadership. Life. Adventure. It’s all a part of the process.
Whether we are caught in periods of over-achieving or procrastinating, one compensating for the other, or simply living our lives in balance, there are always moments when humor and faith are the key to loving, and laughing at, the journey we are walking and the wonderful people we are becoming as we grow along the way.
