Much of the resistance you get from others concerning your dreams can be because of how others perceive you. In truth, unless you have a good sense of self and project that on a regular basis they may have little idea about who you really are. In addition, people see us through their own filters, filters that have nothing to do with you.

If your tendency is to take charge of situations, and your work or life situations have developed that skill set or tendency within you, others may see you as a powerful leader who has to be in charge to be happy. In truth, you may be in a place in your life where sharing the responsibility sounds like heaven. You may also want more than anything to let your creativity out. To live out of the box and experience life, not control it. If they have never experienced that they will not understand. If you have always been the “good, dependable one who never rocks the boat” you may be ready to rock more than a boat. You may be ready to claim your power and finally stand up for what you want, what you need, and the life you want.

How can anyone know this unless you show them? Notice I didn’t say tell them. Words aren’t sufficient to change someone’s opinion of you. Show them, if you are ready.

Messages such as “you’re not aggressive enough.” “You don’t have what it takes.” “You don’t have the patience to tackle that.” “You don’t have the education needed.” “You don’t know the right people” and so many more have all been heard before and they can and should make you stop and think. However, they can cause you to panic if you believe them.

Those messages are wonderful challenges that can cause you to assess your strengths, where you need to grow, what you need to learn so that you can go forward stronger, with a greater sense of who you truly are, and of what strengths you need to develop further. Do stop and think. Don’t rush into anything foolishly, even If it is a dream.

But stopping to think things through, stopping to assess someone’s opinion and either learn from it or discard it is not the same as giving them credibility to stop your dream. Know yourself well enough to assess the messages clearly and then move on.

As I said before, following your dream causes you to grow in ways you never knew were possible and often in ways you never knew you needed to and perhaps you didn’t, until now. The catalysts for that growth come from many areas. Naysayers and learning who you really are, are only two of those areas, more will appear as you pursue the dream and who you are becoming with every dream that appears.
